BIOGRAPHY
Green design has been the focus of Alison Pollack's education and artistic endeavors since before opening her firm in 1993. Her main priority is creating a healthier environment for us in our homes by use of alternative materials selection. Alison is able to adhere to conventional aesthetics without sacrificing quality, choosing products with historical origins, rejuvenating old faithful formulas and giving old tricks a new shine. Alison is determined to express that Green design is not dependant on potato sacks and the color beige and obviously earthy materials. After working in photography, experiencing the industry from both sides of the camera's lens, Alison studied at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, earning her degree and graduating with honors. During her program at FIDM, and before branching out on her own, Alison worked assisting some of LA's top interior designers while also attending what educational Green design courses were available. Due to the limited resources in Green design at the time, Alison enriched her training by way of constant research and development, and through being involved with extensive experimentation of conventional products vs. alternative products. She continues to be involved in research and development as new challenges arise. Among Alison's uncommon discipline, her strengths lie in her ability to visually balance a space, juxtaposing color, texture and form, as well as her adaptability to embrace her client's collections and style. For her clientele, which runs from celebrity, high profile to environmental illness patients, Alison combines elements to enhance their spaces, determined to leave their footprints and not her own. Alison is a supporter and participant of the Environmental Medial Association (EMA), a member of the Natural Resource Defense Council, a member of Sustainable Style Foundation and an allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers. Alison has appeared on three shows for HGTV, (Designing for the Sexes and Designer's Challenge). She frequently lectures on the topic of Green design at FIDM student events and at UCLA Extension. For 2003 and 2004 Alison has participated in the charitable and fundraising event, Design House, for the Assistance League of Southern California. Her participation in 2003 marked the first Green space to be seen on a mainstream designer home tour in Southern California. Annually, she makes a donation of Suite Baby products to the Environmental Media Association's annual awards night silent auction, supporting EMA's sustainable lifestyle efforts, and in the spring of 2005, Alison will be presenting the Suite Baby organic nursery at the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts. Alison is a native Angeleno and resides in the San Fernando Valley. |
